Abstract

The ever-changing reality of organizations and the developments in technology have forced designers to rethink the structure of corporate networks. The increase in the number of users and applications using the network has produced a very sharo traffic increase. Thus, the network structure has been redesigned to include the concepts of hierarchy and modularity, permitting different capacity and performance at the different levels of such hierarchy. Also, the design of a network is now seen as a well defined process. This article portraits the evolution the network architecture has experienced, in order to accommodate to the frequent changes in the organization.
